The powerful storms of January 13 and 15, 2024 devastated the historic grounds and buildings at St. Ann’s, and destroyed the sea wall, opening us up to even greater threats. Regrettably, we believe these storms represent the new normal.
To address this challenge, St. Ann’s is undertaking a multi-year, multi-million-dollar project to put in place a reinforced, concrete wall system, three feet higher than the previous masonry wall. But we need your help to preserve our legacy!
Storms destroyed the seawall protecting the Stone Chapel, Columbarium, and Rectory.
The two-ton granite altar used in outdoor services and weddings was toppled and badly damaged.
Flood waters threatened these historic buildings with water and structural damage.
Forty truckloads of debris removed from the site.
To provide the resources necessary to protect over time, St. Ann’s has established the “Preserving a Legacy Capital Campaign” with a goal of raising $5 million over three years.
Phase 2 focuses on raising the seawall to protect the Rectory along the section outlined in yellow. This is an urgent, vital need that will be given top priority.
Phases 3 and 4 are under consideration to provide additional protection to other vital parts of our grounds and increase storm resilience. Phase 3 focuses on protecting the Seaside Chapel and the grounds surrounding it. Phase 4 would extend this protection to the parking area and other seaward-facing parts of the grounds.
